Description of Story of the Month: Resonance’s Story of the Month begins on the 1st of every month and ends on the 15th of every month, and is open to authors of all nationalities who write in Spanish and are at least 18 years of age. Story of the Month is sponsored by Resonance Literary Translations LLC in Chicago, IL, USA.
Guidelines for Submission.Story of the Month is open to fiction writers who work in Spanish of any kind, including Spanglish, Portuñol or other regional variants. All work submitted for consideration can be on any subject, and written in any style or form, but must be the entrant's own original writing. Please limit your submission to one story a month. Stories under 2,000 words are welcome. There is no minimum word count. All work must be typed and written in Spanish; other presentation elements (e.g. font) are at the entrant’s discretion. There is no fee to submit.
Deadline for Submission. Please submit your story before the 15th to be considered for next month's prize. Stories submitted after the deadline will be considered for the following month’s prize.
Selection and Announcement of Winners. The winning story will be selected by Resonance’s literary translator or qualified guest judges announced on www.resonanceliterary.com/storyofthemonth. All entrants will receive email acknowledgment of their entry within a month. Winner will be notified by phone or email. Winner’s original story and Resonance’s English translation will be announced on Story of the Month within a month.
Prizes. Winner’s original story and Resonance’s English translation will be published on Story of the Month. The names of the 2nd and 3rd place winners will be posted as honorable mentions on Story of the Month. Winner agrees that his/her story may be translated by Resonance and posted on Story of the Month. Winner may see the translation in advance and have the opportunity to give feedback, but agrees to its publication on Story of the Month. Honorable mentions agree to have their names listed on Story of the Month.
Author’s Rights. Winner retains all rights to his/her story in both Spanish and English. After publication on Story of the Month, the author may use the English translation as he/she wishes, as long as Resonance is credited for the translation.
General Terms. Resonance reserves the right to disqualify any entry if it has reasonable grounds to believe that the entrant has breached any of these Rules and Regulations, or made a false declaration on the entry form. All decisions of Resonance are final. Resonance cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering Story of the Month. Resonance is not responsible for lost, incomplete, incorrect, or misdirected entries; or technical, hardware, software or telephone or other transmission failures of any kind; lost, interrupted, scrambled, or unavailable network or connections; or incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions or technical malfunctions or unavailable networks, servers, or sites. By entering Story of the Month, entrants agree to be bound by these Rules and Regulations, and to release and hold harmless Resonance, and its parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, and officers from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with the Story of the Month or use or misuse of the prize. By accepting the prize, winners grant Resonance the right to use their name, image, and likeness for any lawful purpose without further permission or compensation, except where prohibited by law.
